GitHub Copilot Review (2026): Is Paid AI Coding Worth $10 a Month?

We used GitHub Copilot across daily web and backend work for four weeks. Here’s where it pays for itself and where it gets in the way.
What Copilot Is
An AI pair programmer that suggests whole lines and functions as you type, built into VS Code, JetBrains, and Neovim.
The Good
- Boilerplate disappears. Repetitive code, tests, configs, and glue code get written fast.
- Great in familiar patterns. For common stacks it predicts accurately.
- Chat integration now gives inline explanations and fixes.
- Free tier exists for basic use.
The Bad
- Confident but wrong sometimes. It happily invents APIs that don’t exist.
- Context limits. Struggles across very large, unfamiliar codebases.
- Can encourage rubber-stamping. You must review its output critically.
Copilot vs Cursor
Copilot is an assistant inside your existing editor. Cursor is a whole AI-first editor with deeper multi-file edits. For most, Copilot is the gentler start; Cursor is the power tool.
Final Verdict
8/10 — Worth it for active developers. It removes drudgery, but it’s a copilot, not an autopilot. Treat suggestions as drafts and you’ll love it.
