Jira Review (2026): The Enterprise Workhorse — Power You’ll Pay For in Pain

We ran an agile dev team on Jira for three weeks. It’s the most powerful agile tool — and the most frustrating.
What Jira Does
Jira is Atlassian’s issue tracker and agile project management platform — scrum boards, sprints, epics, workflows, and deep reporting.
The Good
- Unmatched workflow customization. Model any process.
- Real agile reporting. Burndown, velocity, flow diagrams done right.
- Enterprise integratio with Bitbucket, Confluence, CI/CD.
- Scales to huge teams.
The Bad
- Learning curve from hell. New users flounder in boards, fields, and permissions.
- Slow and cluttered. Feels heavy in day-to-day use.
- Cost scales with seats and features quickly.
- Admin config is a rabbit hole.
Jira vs Alternatives
Linear (fast, developer-loved), Asana (friendlier), GitHub Projects (free, code-native). Jira only earns its weight in big, process-heavy orgs.
Final Verdict
7/10 — Powerful but painful. Best for enterprises that need strict process. Small/medium teams get more joy from Linear or Asana.
